The Retired Cooks Diary
Friday Night Date Night
Suzette Pennington Munson
Doug and I are empty nesters that enjoy eating out on short notice. Often we decide at 5:PM on a Friday Night that we want to go somewhere for a Date. Oh yes, Date night is not just for the young but for the young at heart. We drive to the end of our road and look at each other and say “Which direction”. Since we live exactly 15 miles from both Decatur and Bowie the direction usually includes discussion on which place to eat or what we are “hungry” for on that particular night.
This last week after another week of snow and ice we were anxious to just escape our “den” and got out for a quick trip to Alvord. We “slipped” into the local restaurant, KT’s and to our surprise the place was packed!
We go out on week nights and usually don’t get caught in a crowd but it was neat to see KT’s the jumping place to be for Friday night.
As many of you know Friday night at many of the restaurants in this area is Fish night and after seeing how many were at KT’s it is obvious that the Fish on the menu is excellent. We chose our favorites from the menu. I had Hamburger Steak with mushrooms and onions which are very good. Doug loves the Patty Melt and stuffed himself on an excellent rendition of his favorite.
We discovered that on a cold winters Friday Night Date did not have to be that far from home but just a quick drive into Alvord at KT”s. If you and yours haven’t been in to eat at KT”s in a while, you need to rediscover a hidden jewel right here at Downtown Alvord!
